Information and Pictures courtesy of Tara from the Officially Unofficial Hercules Site The crowning glory to the Fantasia suite-and it's most memorable- is probably the Night on Bald Mountain segment. Portraying the awakening of the great slavic demon Chernoboag (Ukrania's answer to Satan) the demon arises from atop a misty mountain at dusk beckoning all his minions to celebrate Walpurgis Night (...basically.....Halloween) in a wild orgy of dancing and flames. Disney animators outdid themslves creating the ghosts, witches and skeletons rising from their haunted graves, castle moats and gallows trees......60 years later the animation still amazes and horrifies. |
